Expressive Arts Therapy in Asheville

what is expressive arts therapy?

It can be difficult to talk about how we feel. For some folks (including myself), creative expression makes more sense than words. Expressive arts therapy uses a variety of creative activities in a supportive environment to allow you to express yourself with or without words. Some expressive arts practices include painting, drawing, sculpting, writing, movement, and sound improvisation. Expressive arts therapy emphasizes the process of creating, rather than solely focusing on the finished product.

As an Expressive Arts Therapist, I create space for you to name and feel your feelings. Sometimes you might name your feelings by communicating verbally or sometimes you might name your feelings non-verbally through drawing, collaging, painting, writing, movement, or music. You do not have to be an artist and there is no right or wrong way to participate in expressive arts therapy. We all have the capacity to express ourselves in one way or another. During our time together, we will explore and discover creative ways that you feel comfortable expressing yourself.
